Over the next few days, you may notice that Northwest Public Radio's signal will go away for a few minutes during the 10:00 AM hour. This is due to what we refer to as a "solar outage." A solar or sun transit outage is an electromagnetic phenomenon wherein a station downlink is temporarily unable to receive a satellite signal due to interference from the sun as it passes behind the satellite. They impact satellite feeds for about five consecutive days, for as much as six minutes a day, twice a year. Solar Transit Outages are prediced between Feb 28 and March 5th.

Friday (Feb. 15) on NPR's Morning Edition, we remember Red Barber, who would have turned 100 this weekend. Barber is known for his four-decade career as a Major League Baseball sportscaster for the Reds, the Dodgers, and the Yankees. In 1981 until his death in 1992, Barber became well-known for his weekly Morning Edition contributions, where he would talk with host Bob Edwards about sports, religion, life, and anything else that was on his mind.

We are experiencing some occasional intermittent audio problems on KWWS. We are currently feeding the station with an internet stream connection from our studios. Occasionally audio packets are being lost or corrupted through the stream. This is a temporary situation. We've been feeding the station with the internet solution since our satellite dish was severely damaged by the January wind storm. Our engineers are making progress on getting the replacement dish in place and we hope to be back to normal soon.
