Omak station at 90.1fm Off the Air

Our station that serves the Omak area on 90.1 is currently off the air.  Poor weather conditions hampered our engineer getting to the site until Sunday January 4.   The problem is a faulty satellite receiver.   We are in the process of getting a replacement receiver to the site and hope to have the station on the air as soon as possible, but we don't have a time-table yet.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Northwest Public Radio Is Where-ever You Are

You can enjoy the NPR News and Classical programming of Northwest Public Radio even if you are not near a radio.

Internet listening is also becoming important to Northwest Public Radio.  You may be working in an office building which provides poor radio reception, or you may have only one of our program services in your area but wish to listen to the other.  Or you may be living in Miami, Portugal or Japan or some other location far from NWPR's nearest transmitter.

Not only can you tune in on your computer by clicking Listen Now! on the home page, but there are an increasing number of "radios" made just for Internet listening over your home or office wireless network.   A list of Wi-Fi Internet Radios that are on the market is available here: http://shop.npr.org/category/show/3703

Solar Transit Outages Affect Radio Signal

Over the next few days, you may notice that Northwest Public Radio's signal will go away for a few minutes during the 10:00 AM hour.  This is due to what we refer to as a "solar outage."  A solar or sun transit outage is an electromagnetic phenomenon wherein a station downlink is temporarily unable to receive a satellite signal due to interference from the sun as it passes behind the satellite.  They impact satellite feeds for about five consecutive days, for as much as six minutes a day, twice a year.  Solar Transit Outages are prediced between Feb 28 and March 5th.

Remembering Red Barber

Friday (Feb. 15) on NPR's Morning Edition, we remember Red Barber, who would have turned 100 this weekend. Barber is known for his four-decade career as a Major League Baseball sportscaster for the Reds, the Dodgers, and the Yankees. In 1981 until his death in 1992, Barber became well-known for his weekly Morning Edition contributions, where he would talk with host Bob Edwards about sports, religion, life, and anything else that was on his mind.
